Vast

A desktop app that generates working code from UI selections, so building an interface and writing the code behind it become the same step.

The challenge

Generating code from a visual interface is easy to demo and hard to ship. Output has to compile, stay idiomatic across very different languages, and hold up when the underlying model returns something unexpected.

  • Keeping generated code reliable and efficient, not just plausible
  • Integrating AI APIs without the interface stalling on them
  • Staying simple for beginners while remaining useful to experts
  • Holding consistent standards across every supported language

What we built

We built a dynamic generation system that reads the user's UI selections and turns them into code, with Material-UI driving the interface and OpenAI Codex behind the output. A backend layer owns API interaction, caching and performance, so the editor stays responsive regardless of model latency.

  • Code generation across 10+ programming languages
  • An interface that suits beginners and experts alike
  • Consistent, compile-ready output
  • Architecture built to absorb further integrations

The outcome

Vast reached 25,000 installations within three months of launch, and teams using it reported cutting development time by roughly a third.
